This urban Kauri forest in West Auckland was at risk from Kauri dieback, and action was required to help control the spread – while ensuring the community could continue to use this space.
This project required 720m of track renewals and upgrades. Due to the complications of working in a Kauri dieback area, we had to import approved track materials into the reserve, using helicopters to reach a section along Opanuku Stream.
We also built new boardwalks and resurfaced existing ones, removed and installed new boxed staircases, and installed new Kauri dieback cleaning stations in the reserve.
